Hestia's Needle

A Kitchen Witch's Divination

In the aura of candle light
string a needle on a thread of white
then let the needle hand in the air
asking any question that you dare

Watch the needle swing back and forth
& should it swing from South to North
then the answer is clearly yes
if in circles its anyone's guess

If the needs swings West to East
the answer is no to say the least
when you're done put the oracle away
to be consulted another day

Spell to Reduce & Eliminate Debt

Checking my lunar calendar, I see that today (Thursday) the Moon is Waning in Aries. As you may recall when the moon wanes, or decreases, it is traditionally a time to to shrink influences or to move things away from yourself. Thursday is associated with the Jupiter, the planet of expansion, luck, and riches. In addition, the moon in Aries is an ideal time to begin a projects and develop healthy patterns of behavior.

So with these astrological correspondences in mind, we want to begin to expand our riches by reducing debt and rid ourselves of unwise spending habits by developing strategies that will enable us to save money. Remember, it's not about how much money you make, it's about how much money you keep.

Spell to Reduce & Eliminate Debt

You Will Need:

A Green Candle
A Pin
A Saucer
High John the Conqueror Oil
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Allspice
Copies of all your Bills
Permanent Marker

Instructions:

Candles are flipped so as to burn them upside down and thus symbolically move things away from you, in this case your debt. To begin, cut the 'head' off of the green candle then turn it upside down and dig the wick out of its 'foot'.

Mix one teaspoon each of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice together in a mortar and grind them with a pestle. As you grind the herbs, chant:

"This spell I cast, these words I chant,
to these herb this power grant;
decrease the debt that I owe,
that I may financial freedom know!"

When you are done, spread the herbal mixture out on a candle board (I use a small wooden cutting board.)

Next, using the pin carve the dollar amount that represents the total amount of your debt. Take the candle and hold it's bottom against your abdomen (as if you were going to insert it in your belly button.) and say

"In the divine name of She
who provides all things."

Dip your finger in the High John the Conqueror Oil and run your finger away from you along the candle over the dollar amount you etched into its wax three times saying,

"I banish debt!
I banish debt!
I banish debt!"

Roll the candle on the candle board away from yourself three times allowing the herbs to stick to the candle and say:

"I banish debt!
I banish debt!
I banish debt!"

Place the candle in a holder and set it aside. Take out your each of your bills and using a permanent marker write across them in big bold letters PAID IN FULL. Place these bills on a flat surface, and place an overturned saucer on top of them. Finally, place the candle holder on top of the overturned saucer.

Close your eyes and visualize yourself in a circle of light. When you are ready say:

"I call the Goddess to descend
upon this circle and to lend
your energies to this rite
and grant success unto my plight!"

Drawing power from around you, hold your hand over the candle and visualize this power going into the candle saying,

"As this candle melts away,
so do these debts that I must pay;
prosperity waxes as it wanes,
& through this loss I shall gain!

Say the incantation three times, feeling the power grow with each recitation. Finally, light the candle saying,

"May this spell
end well,
& with harm to none.
so be it done.
I now invoke the law of three,
in the name of Spirit
So Mote it Be!"

Allow the candle to burn out on it's own, then dispose of the ritual remains as normal.

To Curse or not to Curse

An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind.

---Anonymous

Given what was done to me by my erstwhile co-workers and the company I previously worked for many people may wonder why I don't use magick to get back at my enemies to hurt them as they've hurt me, to destroy them and ruin their lives as my own life has been thrown into upheaval.

Destroying others, especially through the use of magick, is not the basis for living a life of peace and enlightened spirituality. In the religion of Wicca there is but one main guide that most, but not all, Wiccans choose to adhere to, that is The Wiccan Rede. There are many versions of the Wiccan Rede, but the one that is most often cited goes...

"An it harm none, do what you will."

Stated most simply, what this means is that you can do anything that you want so long as you don’t hurt anyone (including yourself). However, as witches we understand that not everyone (even other Wiccans) will subscribe to the same philosophy, nor will they always have our best interests in mind. This is not to say that there are times when it is appropriate to use magick to hurt others and I can fully understand such times when a person may succumb to the temptation to invoke dark forces to hurt others.

For example, as a parent we love our children and want only the best for them; sometimes along the way they get hurt. Sometimes it may be a bully and rather than cast a spell to bind or hurt the bully, we teach our children to talk to a teacher about the bully, or teach him/her how to defend him/herself. On the other hand, if someone were to kidnap and rape your child, then through some legal loophole they are allowed to escape justice, I don’t think anyone would blame you for anything that you do to punish this individual.

It is up to the individual to make this distinction for themselves as to when to curse or not to curse. There are witches who choose never to use black magick, and there are others that are willing to throw a curse at the drop of a hat (or a dollar, for that matter). What I can tell you is that, in my experience, the more spiritual a person and the more closely connected to the divine a person is the less likely they are to curse another. In fact, the more enlightened a person is, the less likely they are to use magick at all!

When you work in harmony with the universe and understand the manner in which it works, the universe will unfold before you in the exact manner in which you expect it to manifest! Wise witches understand that there are great forces working around us all the time and that those who would destroy without cause will ultimately be swallowed by their own karma.

My Principles of Belief

Many times when people notice my pentagram, they often assume that I am Jewish; other times, they simply ask what it stands for. When I tell them that I am Wiccan, it only confuses them more, so then I usually say Wicca is another word for Witch, but it has nothing do to with Satanism and let it go from there.

Still other times I know the person thinks they know what my pentagram stands for and are attempting to antagonize me so I reply that my pentagram means that I believe in famous people or aliens.... So, with these people in mind I thought I'd take a break from my recent concerns with my employment situation and share with my readers old and new a few of my principles of belief.

The Nature of God

That which has been called God and will herein be referred to as Spirit is neither male nor female, but rather is both androgynous and asexual, and which exist as pure love. Because we as humans find it difficult to identify with someone or something that is simultaneously male, female, and neuter we attempt to understand Spirit by associating it as one or more of many archetypes, including male, female, and even sometimes animal forms as in Ancient Egyptian and Native American belief systems.

Many individuals find it extremely difficult to accept forgiveness and unconditional love, as represented by Spirit. Therefore, rather than take responsibility for our own failings, humans have often painted their concept of God as having traits which we find undesirable within our selves resulting in mythologies that portray God as jealous, petty, and cruel, as well as loving, kind, and generous.

All living things from humans to animals, and plants, all the way down to the “lowest” forms of life carries within their self the divine spark which is that part of themselves that is Spirit and which is connected to all living things and seeks to reunite with the original source of this light (the cosmic consciousness).

God in Nature

Spirit experiences what it means to be alive through the divine spark within all life. Spirit shares the full range of human and non-human experience, such as falling in love, being scared, being lonely, being hungry, being happy, being healthy, etc….Through the divine spark in the plants and animals, Spirit knows what it means to be sacrificed as food in order for other life to continue, what it means to be planted in the Earth as a seed, to grow and sprout and join the natural order. Therefore, Spirit has the highest compassion for every living thing and the desire for all living things to be in harmony with one another.

Our belief that Spirit shares in the totality of all human and non-human experience is the basis for many of our religious and ritual dramas. As Wiccans, we do not worship Nature. However, we see within Nature symbols of spiritual forces and recognize them as a metaphor for our own individual spiritual journeys.

One Voice, Many Faces…..

The God, or more commonly the Horned God, is that part of Spirit that is male. He is the standard by which men judge themselves and by which others judge him. As a symbol of sexuality, the Horned God represents one of the most elemental forces in Nature, and is therefore complementary to female fertility deities known collectively as the Great Mother. His strength is active and dynamic. Far removed from the image of God as jealous and vindictive, he is the provider and protector and he does not judge.

The Goddess is the female aspect of Spirit. She is the woman that all men want and all women want to be. She is held to be the summation of all other goddesses, who represent her different names and aspects across the many and varied cultures spread out over the world. She is held to be the source of all life everywhere. Her strength is subtle yet potent. She is the nurturer, the care-giver, and her love knows no bounds.

As Wiccans, we recognize that the God and Goddess are themselves aspects of a greater Prime Mover (Spirit), but also their many archetypes, or aspects, are outer reflections of our own inner masculine and feminine selves.

The Role of Satan

Satan is a product of the Christian religion and has no role in the beliefs and practices of Wiccans. God and the Devil, as they are presented in the mythology of Christianity are forever tied to each other. To believe in one, a person must believe in the other; Wiccans are not Christian, therefore they do not believe in or acknowledge the existance of Satan.

The idea of witches worshipping Satan entered the minds of people during a period in history when the Christian church attempted to convert Pagans to their system of belief. The Christians saw in one of our images of God, specifically the Horned God, their own concept of Satan and mistakenlly assumed that witches worshipped Satan.

The Power

Wicca is a religion which recognizes magick as one tool available to all seekers along their spiritual path, but the practice of magick is only one part of the greater whole of Wiccan belief and practices. It has been put forth that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic,” therefore, we recognize magick as a science which we are as yet unable to fully explain.

However, while there are certain principles which we believe are essential for the successful practice of magick, the application of these principles is highly personal and subjective to the individual. As Wiccans, we affirm that magick does not come from any tool; it is channeled through the tool from the individual himself. All one needs in order to perform successful magick is a connection to the divine, a firm belief in one’s self and the belief that you can have that which you desire, reaffirm this with positive thoughts, words, and deeds, and the knowledge that what you send out will come back to you.

The Law of the Power

The path of the witch is a continuous journey, often taking many lifetimes, towards self improvement and the ultimate reunification with the Godhead It has been said that power corrupts and even witches are not immune to its temptations. Many people, at one time or another, lose their way along this journey. However, Spirit does not mete out reward or punishment in so much as the individual rewards and punishes himself according to the realities he creates for himself through his own choices. The gift of free will is that we create our own realities. This has been expressed as “what you think, you become,” or in a different context “I think, therefore I am.” For this reason, Wiccans are urged to abide by a code of conduct comprised of two rules, known as The Wiccan Rede and the Threefold Law.

An it harm none, do what you will,” these eight simple words represent the whole of Wiccan ethics. Since humans have free will, the ‘Rede’ is not an immutable cosmic law, but rather a model for ethical behavior. The Rede is thought to be similar to the Golden Rule, a form of which appears in almost every religion, but while the Golden Rule forbids subjective harm to another, the Wiccan Rede advises that no harm be brought to anyone or anything. Nonetheless, this does not mean that you do not have the right to defend yourself or those you love in the face of danger or abuse.

The Wiccan Rede also alludes to following one’s True Will, a term which has been defined as a person's ultimate destiny in life as well as a moment to moment path of action that operates in perfect harmony with Nature. Therefore, the Rede is less about just following your desires and more about knowing one’s purpose and not only working towards it, but being true to to that purpose.

Whereas the Wiccan Rede represents the foundation upon which our ethics are constructed, the Threefold Law represents the consequences of not adhering to the Rede. The Three-Fold Law states that both the good and bad that you create in thought, word, and deed will be returned to you threefold. In other words, good deeds are magnified in like form back to the doer, and so are ill deeds. The Three-Fold Law is therefore seen as a pragmatic reason for ethical behavior and compliance with the Wiccan Rede.

On Divination and Prophecy

The human mind is a fountainhead of untold power and it has abilities that for centuries have remained untapped. One of our greatest ‘gifts’ as witches is our ability to transcend time. Many individuals perceive time as linear, and it gives them a great deal of comfort to measure it like a length of thread, giving it a beginning, middle, and an end. However, time as we know it does not exist. The wise witch can take that thread, and roll it into a ball so that the past, present, and future all exist as one. This is what makes such things as divination, prophecy, and second sight possible.

By recognizing that all time is omnipresent the human mind is able to analyze both the past and present in order to scan the probability spectrum of alternate futures. The closer the future comes to the present the more possibilities become probabilities, and ultimately inevitabilities. Therefore, the accuracy of a witch’s ability to see the future decreases in direct proportions to the distance those future events lies ahead in time. By active participation in the events occurring in our lives, a person is then able to shift the probabilities to their desired ends.

Personal Freedom

According to the words of our Goddess, all acts of love and pleasure are sacred. Therefore all sexual orientations are to be considered positive, provided that each individual relationship occurs between consenting partners and is both healthy and loving.

Spirit Guides

There are those people who blame Spirit for the circumstances in which they find themselves and who turn away from anything remotely religious or spiritual. It is not the will of Spirit to force its presence on anyone and for this reason Spirit has appointed for each human soul a guide. All spirit guides have had at least one incarnation on Earth and are able to relate to the human condition. Humans have called them Guardian Angels, Spirit Guides, or Totems, but they all have the same purpose, to assist you along your spiritual journey and intervene on your behalf when necessary.

It is the ultimate destiny of each individual to discover Spirit through the choices that they make, however, each individual incarnates on the earth plane with a specific purpose which is designed to nurture their spiritual growth to a point where they reunite with Spirit. In terms of your own spiritual growth, every personal relationship that you have has the potential to be of assistance to you. All relationships, including the relationship to self and to Spirit, are destined to repeat until they are healed, and over many lifetimes if necessary.

Death and the Afterlife

Death is not the end of life, but rather life in another form. What has been referred to as an afterlife doesn’t exist to punish us but rather to teach us. Reincarnation is the process by which our souls grow and involve over successive lifetimes. In accordance with the law that you create your own reality, upon physical death, the soul journeys to a place of its own choosing. There will be no god to condemn you to hell, and no Satan to punish you for your perceived sins, unless that is what you truly believe that you deserve. You are your own judge, and the architect of your own afterlife and therefore what you truly believe you will manifest.

In order to assist the individual into peacefully leaving the earth plane, we as Wiccans teach that the Otherside is a place of peace and rest (called the Summerland) where all our needs are met. Here, with the assistance of our spirit guides we evaluate our most previous incarnation, our experiences, and the lessons that we learned in that incarnation. If, after this period of evaluation, we feel that more lessons are warranted, our spirit guide assists us in writing an outline for our next life. This outline will include those experiences necessary to learn the lessons we feel are needed for our continued evolvement. Unfortunately, as we age we lose conscious awareness of our outline, and tend to stray from the path we have planned for ourselves. Our spirit guides are there to put us back on the correct path. From their vantage point on the spiritual plane they have access to divine knowledge and they can be in several places at once.

The Ancestors

Similar to the beliefs and practices of other religions such as Buddhism, Shinto, Native American Spirituality, and Vodun, ones Ancestors are revered and honored in Wiccan religion. Those who ‘pass away’ don’t simply cease to exist, but rather ascend to higher states of being, from which they can look on and assist us. In this state, the Ancestors exists outside of time and therefore have knowledge of the past and future, and can guide us toward the best possible future. In addition, they can intercede with the Godhead on our behalf and protect us in times of need.

The Road to Heaven

It is not our way to proselytize or to attempt to cause others to accept our beliefs as their own through fear, intimidation, or coercion. There are many “roads to heaven” and of those who choose Wicca as their path, each must come to the Craft by their own free will and mind.

Breaking the Wall

So yesterday, Saturday, was the first day that I actually worked in the Photo Lab. I learned how to do a few things and was happy that my supervisor felt comfortable enough to leave me alone for brief periods. I was still a bit put off by the manner in which a few customers treated me. I only wish that they would realize exactly how they are speaking to me. I'm sure they wouldn't like me to be rude to and dismissive of them and I fail to understand why they would treat me in that manner.

I pretty much have running the register down pat, except that because the manager hadn't assigned me my own sign-on and password, I had to share my supervisors. So when I was sent to cover for another associate at her register, each time my supervisor rang up a customer in the photo lab it signed me out at the front-register and she had to come sign in on my register again.

By the end of the day, I was concerned that I wasn't going to be able to remember all the steps and procedures necessary to perform this job and actually thought about not returning to work today. The drive home was pleasant enough, and when Kid Rock's Only God Knows Why began to play it got me to thinking about my purpose in life. Is this what I'm living for? Where is the meaning in my life? I was thinking that I wasn't really happy with this job and that it would not satisfy me. I was depressed as I felt that I had no alternative options. I began to regret that I no longer worked at Wal-Mart. As bad as it was, I did a good job. I had great hours and, it was close to my home, and the pay was good enough for me to pay my bills and have enough left over to pursue my interest.

By the time I got to the Deception Pass Bridge, I found myself fantasizing about driving over the bridge into the Strait of Juan de Fuca before images of me homeless and walking across America filled my mind. Even in my fantasies, my life sucks...

I stopped at home long enough to change, gather my clothes and go do this week's washing. Two hours later I was at home, ate and cleaned up only to fall asleep on the couch about 8:30 and waking up at 10 pm. I watched one episode of CSI:Miami, then got out my clothes for work the following day and went to bed.

Just before sleep those old self-destructive thoughts came into my mind again. I decided that the more I dwelt on the negative the more the negative will be amplified. So I just had a conversation with god and basically affirmed that I cast a spell to get a job that will best utilize my experience and skills and allow me to maintain my present lifestyle. This job is the one that I was lead to and therefore it must be the right one for me. If the Creator has faith in my ability to do this job effectively, then I must have faith in the Creator.

In my dreaming mind I was in a cold place, snow was everywhere. On a hill side I found a pair of pants that I liked very much and which were very comfortable ( I think they were brown corduroy). I put them on but they were covered in snow but I knew that once the snow melted and they dried I would love them; and so with my new pants I turned and climbed over that hill.

I didn't think much about the dream at that time as I was more concerned about getting ready for work. So I turned on the tv for company, and ran my bathwater....On the drive to work, I got to thinking about that dream and as I write this now I cannot remember the logic behind my interpretation but what I got from the dream was I am unsure of my self right now (the cold and the snow) but once I find myself in this place (the pants) I will become more comfortable in the job, overcome this challenge (the hill) and be able to continue my life's journey.

And so, even though it wasn't the start of my day, I made this prayer my own....

O Spirit.
Fill me
with the knowledge
of my true-will
that I may walk
in the light of truth
and act in the spirit
of wisdom.
As I draw closer to
at-one-ment
with you
increase the fruit
of my good work
Make me one
with your power
that your strength
become mine own.
So Mote It Be!

My First Day At Work

So my new manager called me a little after 10 am this morning and told me that I had passed my drug test. He wanted to know if I could start today, which I told him I could. Since Kaleb spent the night with me, I had to take him home to his daddy then come back take a shower and leave for Walgreens.

I got there about noon and the manager took me through the hiring process, which took about an hour and from 1pm till I went to lunch at 5 pm all I did was stock merchandise (with the exception of a 15 minute break at 2:30) in the food aisle. After lunch, I finished up stocking which took me about another hour. From 6 pm to 7:30 I sat at a computer receiving my training. I took my last break from 7:30 to 7:45 and finished out my day on the computer doing more training.

I left work at 8:30 and got home just at 9pm.

All in all the day went by pretty fast, the work wasn't hard and, in fact, I'm not even really tired right now. I had one customer who got an attitude because I couldn't ring up his purchases because I havent' been trained to do so. I directed him to Cosmetics, where a cashier was on hand, instead he thought it was appropriate to throw down his items and leave the store. Another "lady" asked me for assistance and then was totally dismissive of me. We are not amused!

The people I'll be working with seemed friendly enough, but there is one curious thing I noticed about this Walgreens. Where the hell are all the men??? Other than the Store Manager and the Assistant Manager, I believe that I am the only male that seems to work there. Guess I won't be fishing off the company pier in that department. Maybe I'll meet a good looking poor dude, or a rich, ugly dude....I'm told that Paul Newman has a home in Anacortes and that there are some well-to-do people in this town.

Yesterday I added a Lunar Calendar to my website. So far I only have the month of June. You can use this calendar to determine the Moon Phase, and discover which sign the Moon occupies for any particular day. It will also show the dates of the Sabbats. Click on the event of the day for more information about the event.

Anyway, nothing magickal to write about today but I'd like y'all to see this video I made of Kaleb the other night. A few days ago I laid down on the couch to relax and sent him in the bedroom to play with his toys. I noticed that he kept jumping on my bed and I couldn't figure out how he kept getting all the way to the other side. So I got up quietly and peeked around the corner and found out how.

I took this video to show to his daddy ...then I firmly told him to never do this again! Look closely and you'll see my altars....

Where's the Wicca?

So those of you who have been following my blog may have noticed that although I identify as Wiccan, the spells and rituals I've been writing about lately have had a definite folk-magic flavor. Well, the reason for that is that as I indicated in a blog a few weeks ago I wanted to further my magickal education in the Hoodoo Tradition; and anytime that I am studying a tradition or magickal system I totally immerse myself in that system/tradition.

So, no I haven't turned my back on Wicca and I will be writing about topics that fall under this category again real soon. In the mean time, I want to share some resources with you, my readers, in case you'd like to learn more about the Hoodoo Tradition as well.

Success!!!

I left my home an hour early today for my interview to give me enough time in case I got lost. I followed the directions provided by mapquest, which I have found to be reliable and highly recommend their program if ever you have need.

I found Walgreens with no trouble whatsoever, and arrived 35 minutes early. Ten minutes before my scheduled interview, I walked into the store and waited to speak with the manager.

Contrary to what I was told I was not interviewed by N. I was interviewed by a female manager from a different store as well as an the assistant manager of this store. From what transpired during the interview, I inferred that the female manager was new to her position and was in-training.

The interview went well then the female-manager called in N (the person that I had originally thought was going to interview me.) N asked me a few more questions and then asked me to leave the room for a few minutes. Later when I returned, they made me the job offer (pending a drug test).

Although the job is part-time, I will be getting more than 32 hours due to the fact that there are many people who are going on vacation; they want to cross-train me so that I can fill in in other departments and thus get more hours. The job will eventually go full time. The manager even said that if I let him know how I feel about the job, but the traveling gets to be too much (due to soaring gas prices) he would recommend that I be transferred to my local store about a mile down the road. The job is only 20 miles from my house, which is further away than my last job with Wal-Mart but it isn't un-reasonable.

So pending the results of my drug test, I will be rejoining the workforce. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers, good thoughts, and energy during this time.

Ritual of Thanksgiving

White Candle

Incense

Image of Deity

Time: This ritual may be performed at any time
Preparation: Place the candle beside the deity image, and before these place the incense.
The Ritual: At your altar or shrine, light a tea-candle and incense to your patron deity, say:

"In honor dances this candle's flame,

In praise of (deity’s) holy name;

In thanks-giving for & appreciation of,

All that you’ve done for me, from love."

Say a prayer from the heart acknowledging your blessings, be specific and relate what your blessings meant to you you. Make a special offering of food, milk, wine, honey, or a special object to the deity.

When you are done, allow the candle and incense to burn themselves out naturally.

My Horoscope this Morning

Just a quick blog post, my interview isn't until 3 pm this afternoon; but I checked my horoscope this morning which said "this could be the day when all your hard work finally pays off!" I don't know about you but that is a dam good sign.

I got an additional candle burning on my interviewer's name with my resume, letters of recommendation, and driving directions under the saucer. I'm maintaining a positive attitude and I can see my goal in sight.

When I get back this afternoon, I'll let you know how it went.

Twice as Nice

If you've been following my blog, then you are aware that about two weeks ago I lost my job with Wal-Mart and that my entries lately have focused on my magickal efforts to gain employment again. Over the past two weeks I have submitted 15 applications with a number of businesses and have had 5 interviews. However, I have not yet been offered a job.

Tomorrow I have an interview in Anacortes with a major retailer. Luckily I was clever enough to ask for the name of the person who will be interviewing me and last night I performed the Sweet Spell on his name. This time, I added a few more steps/ingredients and will describe the process below.

First I wrote his name on paper three times, I turned the paper 90 degrees and wrote my own name three times crossing and covering it as I wrote. Then I wrote the words "hire me" over and over again in a perfect circle around the names.

Crossing and Covering

Next, I anointed the four corners and center of the name-paper with a mixture of whiskey and tobacco. Tobacco is thought to help in compelling people, and as we all know alcohol has made more than one person act against their better judgment.

I the ate a spoon's worth of syrup saying, "As this syrup is sweet to me, so may I be sweet to (N)." Then I placed the name-paper on a small saucer and covered it in the syrup. For added measure, I sprinkled a some sugar and tobacco on top of the syrup.

Pouring the Syrup

Next, I carved the name of this man on a green-candle and anointed it with the whiskey/tobacco mixture. I then placed the candle on top of the name paper (the syrup makes the candle stand up on its own) saying, "(N) I place you under this candle that you may never escape its influence. I command and compel you to hire me!"

Another Sweet Spell

The candle burned through the night and this morning I check the left over wax for signs.

Photobucket

From left to right, I see a phallus (complete with scrotum) which would symbolize strength, protection, and fertility. I see a rabbit, which symbolizes luck, prosperity and increase. I see a chair, which symbolizes power, comfort and relief; and according to one source chairs reflect your position at work. I see a left ear which to me is a message to listen to your intuition. Over all the wax appears to me to be a cloud being broken up by the wind, which could represent the removal of obstacles and movement on an issue.

Overall, I see these as extremely favorable signs.

A Closer Look

For those of you who have been following my blog, you know that earlier this week I performed a tarot reading for myself and that today I was expecting a message from a man who would offer me a job. This job offer would bring a sense of relief and of fear things unfamiliar.

Below you will find a copy of that reading along with my comments in red.

Photobucket

As per my usual method, before I shuffle the cards I cut them and put them back together. I then draw the top-most card and use this as a signifier. This card usually tells a great deal about a person, their outlook, and give an insight into what they will inquire about. I drew the Seven of Pentacles.

The Seven of Pentacles shows a man who has labored long and hard in his garden. The foliage is full, the blossoms are out - it seems that his work has paid off. Now he's taking a break to admire his handiwork. Seven is also the number of the dreamer, the mystic, the psychic.

This description corresponds quite well with my present outlook, as I had planted "seeds" of magick and was awaiting to see what they would grow into becoming.

I then shuffled the cards asking for information that would be assistance to me regarding my employment situation.

1. The Cover (Eight of Pentacles)

Your question concerns your ability to provide for yourself though the work of your hands. You are actively seeking employment, and are attempting to shape reality and manifest a proper job through magickal means.

2. The Crossing (Nine of Pentacles)

Outwardly, you are attempting to exercise discipline and self-control. You are listening to the voice of inner knowing and confirm that your success is assured.

3. Where You Are Now (The Moon)

Right now you are somewhat depressed as you are prone to negative thinking. You are unsure of your future and see only obstacles in your path. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

4. Where You Wish to Be (The Tower)

You desire swift change, the removal of obstacles and the purging of negative personality aspects. This is a lot to ask for and though it may come in time, you must exercise patience.

5. The Past (Three of Wands)

You established yourself in the field of commerce in the past and this opportunity proved to be prosperous for you. But now you must turn away from the past, including negative behaviors, and consider exploring unfamiliar modes of employment.

6. The Future (Judgement)

I foresee that your efforts will bring about results in the form a message. There is a choice that you must make. I feel a sense of relief and freedom, but also a fear of things unfamiliar. It is possible that you will be offered a job beyond the scope of your skills and experiences.

Today I went out to Ace Hardware to purchase some items to fix my sink, which had been broken since Friday the 13th no less. I'm proud to say that I did fix the sink all my myself. So I was feeling much better in that I accomplished this task.

Anyway, when I got home I saw the little red light flashing on my phone indicating that I had a message. I couldn't get my fat little fingers to push those buttons fast enough. The caller was a lady from a major business in an nearby town 20 miles away. She wanted to schedule me for an interview.

Now this did give me a great sense of relief in that I had yet another opportunity to be gainfully employed again; but it also came with a sense of fear as I have never liked driving to an unfamiliar place. The choice I had to make was either ignore the phone call and stay in my comfort zone, or call the lady back and schedule the interview.

The signs that I have been receiving have indicated that I've been on the wrong track, so I swallowed my fear and called the lady. I scheduled an interview for Wednesday at 3 pm. I was clever enough to find out the name of the person who will be interviewing me and it is a man (see the Knight of Cups below.)

Once I drive to this place and get home safely, it will open up even more opportunities as I will then be comfortable enough to branch out further away that I have before. From Anacortes, it's just a short trip to Burlington.....

I have a friend who cannot ride with me on Wednesday, but we have already planned driving to Anacortes tomorrow to this business so I will know how to get there for my interview.

7. Yourself (Four of Swords)

Swords rule our mental faculties and Four is the number of stability. You are using your time while unemployed to relax and let go of the stress of your previous job as well as to come to terms with your present circumstances and assess your future.

8. Those Around You (The Hierophant)

Your friends and close relations are there to support you. They are loyal and can be trusted. Heed their advice to be more willing to adapt in order to survive. Bend or be broken.

9. The Best You Can Hope For (Four of Cups)

This is the time to focus on yourself. You have a great opportunity for self-examination and pursue self-improvement. Learn from past mistakes, adjust, and move forward.

10. The Outcome (Six of Cups)

I foresee the opportunity for a fresh start and new growth, in a new, more pleasant environment. I see relief, joy, and contentment.

The message I received did offer an opportunity for a fresh start and new growth. I haven't visited the business yet, but I expect the working environment to be more pleasant than my previous one.

The Knight of Cups

A man of vision will come forward and make your an offer or a proposal ( a job offer?) based on his gut instincts.

The person interviewing me on Wednesday is a man and I have his name so that I can perform the Sweet Spell on his name. According to this reading, he will offer me a job based on his instincts.

The Three of Cups

Three is the number of manifestation. What will manifest (a job) will be a cause of celebration, joy, and relief.

I predict that within 3 days time, I will be offered a job. As this reading occurred just after Midnight (Saturday the 14th) the offer should come by Tuesday the 17th.

I had originally thought that the job offer would come three days from the date of the reading. Now I feel that it will come three days from the date I received the original message, which was today (see Judgement above). Therefore, the job offer should be coming on Thursday the 19th.

So it's back to the drawing board. Tonight, after I've had my supper and a relaxing bath I'll be performing the Sweet Spell on this man's name. I have some ideas to augment the spell, which I will share with you, my readers, tomorrow in a separate entry.

How to Make Your Own Luck

In accordance with the idea of augmenting one's spiritual work with mundane work to ensure a greater chance of obtaining one's goals, I want to share you with, my reader, the following article. I transcribed this article How To Make Your Own Luck from a magazine article that someone left in the break room of my previous job, however I failed to note the name and publication date of the magazine. Also I have provided additional links at the end of this article with more advice on this topic.

How to Make Your Own Luck

There are moments when everyone feels lucky. Remember the day you found the perfect apartment, the morning you met the headhunter at the gym or the time you got a table at the hottest restaurant in town? But wouldn’t it be great if your luck were less random, if you could count on it for everything from landing a great job to finding the love of your life?

The secret of good luck is not to trust it, one must learn to create their own luck. “The ability to attract and maximize good fortune is more about choice than chance,” says Richard Wiseman, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire in England. He spent eight years studying the personality of differences of consistently lucky or unlucky people---those who had a knack for having their dreams come true and those who didn’t. Wiseman determines that their breaks weren’t just random but an outgrowth of their personalities. “It was a result of how they thought and behaved,” he says.

Fortunately we can all learn to be more like them. When Wiseman, who’s also the author of The Luck Factor (Hyperion 2003), showed volunteers how to improve their luck by adjusting their attitudes and actions, 80 percent of them increased their happiness, confidence, and success in just one month. Try these five strategies to bring more luck into your life:

  1. Have High Hopes- “Lucky and unlucky people have amazingly different expectations about the future,” says Wiseman. His research shows that because the less fortunate count on things to go wrong, they often give up prematurely--- not bothering to send a resume because they don’t’ believe they’ll get hired or not joining an online dating service because they know they wont’ meet anyone special, for example. Those who are the luckiest, on the other hand, have a more positive outlook. They’re certain that the future is bright and as a result attempt to achieve their goals despite the odds. Part of this conviction lies in recognizing how fortunate they already are, says Rachelle Disbennett-Lee, a life coach in Aurora, Colorado. Rather than limiting their view of luck as something extraordinary, they recall when they got a last minute doctor’s appointment or a great deal on a pair of shoes they’d planned to buy at full price. To raise your expectations imagine an upcoming scenario that turns out in your favor. Before going into a meeting or on a first date, for example, close your eyes and picture yourself appearing confident and relaxed. When the real event arrives, you’re more likely to anticipate and realize the best possible results.

  1. See the Good in the Bad- A glass half full perspective allows you to effectively cope, and often thrive, during difficult times. When you lose a promotion to a less qualified person, for instance, or your best friend tells you she’s moving across the country. “Lucky people view setbacks as temporary and believe that everything turns out for the best,” says Azriela Jaffe, author of Create Your Own Luck (Adams Media Corporation, 2000). But what if you’re not naturally optimistic and don’t easily see how things could have been worse, that instead of just twisting your ankle when you fell down the stairs you might have broken your leg? Focus on the advantageous results of negative experiences by looking beyond the obvious, difficult circumstances or emotions of a situation. For example, after you ended a turbulent relationship with your last boyfriend, you met the man you became your husband. Or perhaps a major flood in your bathroom inspired you to search for and find the perfect apartment. “Sometimes lucky comes disguised and only time reveals how fortune we really were,” says Disbennett-Lee, who has firsthand experience with this. Though Disbennett-Lee didn’t know it when she lost her corporate job, being laid off was one of the best things that ever happened to her, since it allowed her to start her own business.

  1. Trust Your Instincts- The unlucky often ignore their intuition when making decisions and later regret it. Lucky people, on the other hand, respect and follow their hunches. “Instead of looking at a situation rationally, they use their instincts as a sign to proceed with caution or to move full speed ahead,” says Wiseman. To increase your intuitiveness, try this exercise: When you’re uncertain about two choices, pick one and commit your decision to paper. If you’re not sure whether to end a relationship, for example, write a detailed letter to your partner explaining that it’s over and why you’re ending it. Then ask yourself how it feels to hold your future in your hands. Does sending the letter feel right? That’s your intuition talking; tune in and you’re more likely to make the right decision. To tap into it, make an effort to quiet your mind through exercise, meditation, or retreating to a peaceful place once a day. “Even turning off the television or radio while you’re preparing dinner will give you the time you need to connect with your intuitive power,” Wiseman says.

  1. Expand Your Network- The bigger your web of contacts, the better your odds of finding opportunity. “Luck is a numbers game,” says Disbennett-Lee. “The more you’re out in the world, the greater the chance you have to meet people who can help you.” For those who are outgoing and gregarious, building a large ‘network of luck’ comes easily---they’re more likely to meet friends for coffee, to attend industry networking events or to strike up a conversation with a stranger. If you’re shy or introverted, start by watching your body language. In Wiseman’s studies, the most fortunate people smiled twice as much and engaged in more eye contact than their counter parts. They also pointed their bodies toward the person they were speaking to, uncrossed their arms and legs and gestured frequently. The result: “Communicating comfortable, inviting signals makes you the target of other friendly approaches,” says Disbennet-Lee.

  1. Spice Things Up- Lucky people routinely introduce variety into their lives. The changes don’t have to be large or time-consuming. Simply taking another route to work now and then or occasionally trying a different restaurant creates new opportunities for beneficial change. For example, Wiseman tells of a study subject who randomly chose a color before arriving at a party and then introduced himself to other guest who were wearing that color, regardless of whether they were his ‘type.’ Besides meeting some interesting people, he had more fun, another important link to luck. Personality tests have show that good fortune tends to make you more relaxed and laid back. If you’re not naturally open to novelty in your life, make a list of a half dozen things you’ve never done before but wouldn’t mind trying, from taking an improv class or learning to scuba dive. Number the options from one to six. Then, one by one, carry out each chosen adventure. You’ll be amazed by how often you’ll find luck in the unlikeliest places.

Gettin' My Mojo Workin'

Photobucket

Yesterday, my Steady Work Vigil Candle finished burning down. Although it didn't leave any marks on the glass, which is a good sign, it did not completely burn away all the wax which is usually taken as a sign that there is unfinished business with the work. I'd like to point out, however, that the wick itself did burn completely.

In addition, in continuing my Sweet Spell a cloud has now appeared over the boot which symbolizes a message from the divine, but also confusion or obstacles.

Photobucket

So I placed the Vigil Candle aside for disposal later. I then removed everything from my altar and wiped it down with a clean, white cloth which I lightly dipped in ammonia to remove any previous energies. In addition, I cleaned my entire house from top to bottom and opened all the windows to let in come clean air and sunshine.

Finally, Friday night after the sun went down, I buried the left over Vigil Candle in the ground under my bedroom window (which also faces East). This was done to 'fix the work' and help it 'grow' with the Sun.

After this was done, I felt the urge to cast a new spell. I don't usually do spells without some thought or effort beforehand, but I've also learned to listen to that inner voice. So I flipped through my Book of Shadows and found the following spell.

Spell For Employment

Photobucket

You will need:

A White Candle
(for blessing and a clear path)

Two Blue Candles
(for wishes)

Orange Oil
(for money and prosperity)

Thyme
(to increase and protect money)

Bay Leaves
(for success and victory)

Ginger
(to heat things up and speed them along)

Mortar and Pestle
(for crushing herbs)

Pen and Paper
(for writing petitons)

Saucer

A Bible

To begin, mix three pinches each of the herbs in a mortar and pestle and add three drops of orange oil. Grind them together into they are one, while focusing on your goal.

Write a brief description of your job requirements and when you are done, turn the paper 90 degrees and write your name across this nine times. Draw dollar signs in the four corners of the paper, place a small bit of the herbal mixture in the center of the paper and anoint the four corners with orange oil. Fold the paper towards you three times and place this beneath an overturned saucer.

Using a pin or nail, inscribe your full name on the white candle and anoint it with Orange Oil, and roll it towards yourself in the herbal mixture until it is sufficiently covered. Inscribe the two blue candles with the words "Steady Work" anointing them with oil and rolling them in the herbal mixture as before. Place the White Candle on top of the overturned saucer and place the blue candles on either side of the white one.

Read Psalm 23 three times visualizing the events described in the Psalm as happening to you. For example, visualize the Lord anointing your head with oil, visualize your cup running over, etc...

Light the white candle and say:

"May the flame from this candle burn away all that stands in my way of obtaining the job that is right for me."

Hold the two blue candles in your hands, light them from the flame of the white candle and say:

"May the flames from these candles light my path and lead me to the job that is right for me."

Read Psalm 57 once. Don't rush through the recitation, but pay attention to the words and visualize the events in the Psalm happening to you.

Allow the candles to burn out on their own.

Although I have never seen anyone read signs from the order in which the candles burned themselves out, I'd like to note that the White candle burned down first, followed by the left Blue Candle and finally the right Blue candle. I interpreted this as meaning that I am eager to see results on this issue (the white candle represented me and my desire) and that I have "left" the wrong path and am now on the "right" track.

Later that night, I was somewhat bored and not quite ready to go to bed. I decided to perform a divination on the work I've done. So I pulled out my Tarot Cards and did a reading.

You establish yourself in the field of commerce in the past and this opportunity proved to be prosperous for you.

7. Yourself (Four of Swords)

Signs, Signs, Everywhere Signs....

Today, I want to continue my discussion regarding signs, but first I want to talk about results! If you remember, one of the ingredients I used in my Steady Work spell was thyme, which is thought to protect and increase your money.

The Doctrine of Signatures holds that the Creator marked everything in existence with a sign or signature and that by careful observation one can determine the uses of a plant from an aspect of its form such as the shape of its roots or leaves, its color, place of growing, or even its name. For example, Walnuts are believed to cure ailments of the head because they resemble a human head; buckeyes are carried for male potency, and to attract sexual partners as they resemble a young boy's testicles; in like fashion ammonia, which sounds like harmony, is often used to cleanse objects of negativity; and thyme which sounds like time, is believed to draw in money as it has often been reported, "time IS money."

Today, I received my last paycheck from Wal-Mart. While I was expecting about $900.00 dollars I was pleasantly surprised to have received $1340.00! Later I went to one of the houses I am cleaning and the person decided to pay me $50.00 earlier than expected. Finally, I received a check for $400.00 today from Merrill Lynch for selling my Wal-Mart Stocks. Whereas I was expecting this money, I had no idea that it would come in so soon, and all at one time. I don't know about you, but that certainly sounds like 'protecting and increasing my money.'

I've continued burning a candle on the name of one prospective employer and today was the first day that a sign was left in the candle wax. If you look closely at the photo below you'll notice a U-Shaped Crescent as well as a Boot to the right of the Cresent. In addition, you will notice that an eye appears to be resting in the crescent.

Photobucket

The U-Shaped Cresent reminds one of a Lucky Horseshoe, and the boot represent moving forward. The fact that the boot is to the right of the Crescent, I take that to mean that I am on the right path. Eye symbolism has been used since ancient times, and even appears on American currency, as a symbol of protection from evil. In addition, it also symbolizes the Eye of God and means that, as humans, our vision is limited; however God can see everything and knows what is best for us. I may be on the right path, but focusing on the wrong opportunity at this time.

Given that the money aspect of my spell is working, I can only assume that the job-getting aspect of the spell is as well; which takes me back to my original point of "like attracts like." I am on the right path, I just need to not focus on this one opportunity nor succomb to despair and negative thinking.

Scot-Irish Prayer For the Road

(modified)

God before me
God behind me
God be with me.
You as my head
I as your limb
In the twisting of the road
In the currents of the river
Be with me by day
Be with me by night
Be with me by day and by night
Amen.

Follow Up on My Work

Photobucket

Well, my candle is burning down even and clean with no black marks or any smoke of any kind--which are taken as good signs in candle burning. In and of itself, it means that one will generally get what you are working for. In addition I've been watching and waiting for signs and I've been having dreams of getting a job again in a position that is familiar to me.

In order to get an impartial reading, I went to Llewellyn's Web Tarot and got a simple past, present, future reading which indicated that I would soon be employed in a position that best utilized my skills.

I completed my third interview with the same company today and I think that it went well. The owner told me that they are finishing up the interview process and will be making their decision by Friday, or Monday at the latest. I am REALLY trying to maintain a positive attitude, but this is torture.

In addition to this work, I am also performing the Sweet Spell on the prospective employer who interviewed me today. I will be burning one candle per day on his name until I get an answer one way or another.

Sweet Spell

This spell falls under the category of Honey Jar family of spells, but the form of this spell which I will describe below is much older. It is designed to sweeten someone to you, to make them like you more, to make them favor your petition, to want to assist you.

Supplies Needed:

An Orange Candle
(orange Candles are used in Hoodoo Spells to Open the Way)

A Saucer
(to burn your candle on)

Pen and Paper
(for writing your petition)

A Spoon
(for tasting the sweetener)

Honey or Syrup
(to sweeten the person to you)

Lighter
(for lighting your candle)

Begin your spell when both clock hands are rising, as it is believe that works of constructive magick and increase are best done when both hands on the clock are rising. Conversely, works of destruction and decrease are best performed when both hands are descending.

Take a piece of paper that has been torn on all four sides by hand and write the name of the individual you wish to influence on the paper three times. Cross and Cover this with your own name, also written three times. Finally, in a perfect circle around the names and without lifting your pencil from the paper, write the phrase "hire me" over and over until you complete the circle.

Place your petition in the center of the saucer. Take out a spoon's worth of honey or syrup and say, "as this syrup is sweet to me, so may I be sweet to (N)." Pour the honey or syrup over the petition and let it be completely covered. Set up the orange candle up on the center of the petition (the syrup/honey should allow it to stand on it's own).

Light the candle and make your petition or say your prayer, then let it burn all the way down.

Carolina Dean :)~

Note: If I had an Compelling Oil, I would have anointed the four corners of the petition as well as the candle during the spell. To augment my spell, I placed my letters of recommendation under the saucer.
