On the Use of Skull Candles

Skull Candles are shaped like the human skull and come in black, green, red and white. Because they are associated with the human head/mind they are used to penetrate another’s thoughts and make them think a certain way.  However, due to many people associating skeletons with sickness and death, I have seen some practitioners use these candles to bring health to the sick or to curse their enemies with sickness unto death.

In my experience, the best times to work with skull candles is when the moon is in Aries, which rules the head, or alternatley when the moon is in the sun-sign of the person the spell is to effect. To use your candle, hollow out the base and load it with the individual's personal concerns.  If you desire, you may carve the individuals name across the forehead or the back of the neck. In the case of a reversing spell, you would write the name reveresed (as if it would appear in a mirror).

In some cases, the skull also acts similar to a voodo doll. For example, some folks have been know to hollow out the mouth of the doll and fill it in with alum or tobacco to stop the individual from gossiping. In other cases, you may fill the eye sockets in with wax, or stick pins in them,  to prevent a person from noticing you either visually or psychically. When you are done, dress your candle with your oil and place your written petition underneath. If you desire, you may sprinkle any herbs and/or powders over the skull. Finally, light the candle and make your prayer or petition. Some folks even like to talk to the skull as if it were the actual person in question.

If you don't have a skull candle on hand, you can always use a regular candle and melt it to the top of a ceramic skull figure such as those sold as decorations around Halloween.

Sample Skull Candle Spell Compell Someone to Pay You Money Owed

To Perform this Spell You will Need
  • Green Skull Candle
  • Pay Me Now Oil
  • Pay Me Now Powder
  • Licorice Root Pieces
  • Calamus Root
  • Dried Patchouli
  • Pen and Paper
Working the Root: Write the name of the debtor 7 times on a piece of brown paper torn on all four sides by hand.  Turn the paper 1/4 turn and write your own name over their also 9 times. Anoint the four corners and center of the paper with Pay Me Now Oil. Fold the petition towards you and say:

"With God's blessings, as I fold this petitions towards myself, so may [name] now be compelled to pay me the [amount of money] s/he owes me. In Jesus name. Amen."

Set the petition aside and hollow out the bottom of the candle and load it with the licorice root pieces, calamus root, and dried patchouli. Seal the hole with wax. Next, carve the name of the debtor across the forehead of the candle followed by the words "pay me now!"

Dress the candle with Pay Me Now oil and sprinkle Pay Me Now Sachet Powder over the candle. Finally, light the candle and make your prayer or petition saying:

"As Jesus has said to render unto Cesar the things which are Cesar's, in like fashion I now command and compell [name] to render into me that which is mine. [Name], pay me now! In Jesus name. Amen."

You may then leave the candle to burn itself out or burn it for a few minutes a day over a period of day.

Hanky Panky: A Fetish for Festishes

A Fetish for Fetishes

Preliminary: The handkerchief-code was a system widely used in the 1970’s by gay men to indicate their sexual fetishes. The handkerchief, or bandanna, was worn in one’s back pocket or pulled through a belt loop. The color of the handkerchief as well as the position on the body it is displayed typically indicates the type of sexual experience the wearer seeks as well as the specific part they want to play in the experience (i.e. Top, bottom; to give or to receive, etc…).

For example, wearing your handkerchief on your left-side signifies that the wearer is a Top; while wearing it on the right-side indicates a bottom. While there is no universally agreed upon color-code, as there are regional variants, there is a generally agreed upon list of colors that relate to common practices. For example:

  • Black-               S&M
  • Blue (Dark)-     Anal sex
  • Blue (Light)-     Oral sex
  • Brown-             Scat (Coprophilia)
  • Green-              Prostitution
  • Grey-                Bondage
  • Orange-            Virtually Anything
  • Purple-              Piercing
  • Red-                  Fisting
  • Pink-                 Dildo/Anal toys
  • White-               Masturbation
  • Yellow-              Water-sports

Working the Root: This spell makes use of the handkerchief-code to make a fetish in the form of a mojo-bag for the purpose of attracting a sexual partner. In order to perform this spell you will need:

  • A handkerchief or a mojo-bag in the color that corresponds to the type of sexual behavior you desire.
  • Square of Mars
  • Lavender Buds
  • Juniper Berries
  • Violet Leaves
  • Buckeye Nut
  • Damiana
  • High John Root
  • Candle (same color as mojo bag)
  • Lavender Lust Drops
  • Pencil and Red Pen

When the moon is new on a Tuesday, lightly sketch the Square of Mars (at left) on a piece of paper in pencil. When you are ready to begin your spell, you will trace the numbers on the square in red ink while focusing on your goal of attracting a sexual partner.

When you are done, turn the paper over and write a brief one-line description of the type of sex in which you wish to engage in seven times.  For example you might write:

  • Give Oral Sex to Masculine Top
  • Receive Anal Sex from Leather-Daddy
  • Mutual Masturbation with Passable T-Girl

Next, turn the paper 90 degrees and write your name across the description also seven times. Anoint the four corners and center of the paper with Lavender Lust Drops and fold a strand on your pubic hair in the petition towards you three times. Rotate the paper clockwise between each fold and place it in your appropriately colored mojo-bag or center of your handkerchief.

Anoint the High John Root and buckeye with your semen and Lavender Lust Drops and place this in the bag. Then, one at a time, place the herbs in the mojo-bag. As you place each item in the bag, tell it what you want it to do. For example, you may say something like “Lavender buds which attract men, attract a man to me.”

Tie your mojo-bag or handkerchief and smoke it in incense and feed it Lavender Lust Drops making your prayer or petition. You may wish to say something such as “With God’s blessings, and by all the power of attraction and desire which are his to command; bring to me a lover who wants me as I want him, who needs me as I need him, who desires that which I have to offer, who offers that which I desire.  In Jesus name. Amen"

Thereafter, wear your mojo-bag against your skin for at least seven days. Whether you go out to seek sex or stay in and attempt to hook up using an online service such as Craigslist©, wear your mojo-bag on the correct side of your body (left side for Tops, right side for bottoms). Keep your mojo in a safe place when not in active use, but be sure to feed it once a month when the moon is new.

Note: If you desire you may add roots, herbs, or curios that speak to your intent in a direct manner. For example, if you wish to give / receive a hand-job you might want to include Lucky Hand Root; if you wish to give / receive oral sex you may wish to include Deer’s Tongue.

Honey-Boss Mojo Bag

For Respect on the Job, and a Positive Working Relationship with your Boss or Supervisor.

The Honey-Boss Mojo Bag is made specifically to sweeten your boss to you so that he or she will like you and want to favor you. To construct the Honey Boss Mojo Bag, you will need the following items:
  • Purple Candle
  • Boss Fix / Crown of Success Oil
  • Boss Fix / Crown of Success Incense
  • Pen
  • Master Root
  • Sampson Snake Root
  • Gravel Root
  • Brown Sugar
  • 5 Finger Grass
  • Licorice Root
  • Whole Cloves
  • Fennel Seeds
  • Seal of Orion

Working the Root:  Begin by writing your boss's name on the back of the Seal of Orion 7 times, then turn the paper a quarter turn and write your name over your boss's name crossing and covering as you go. Dress the seal in the four corners and center with a blend of Crown of Success and Boss Fix Oil and fold it towards you saying:

"As I fold this paper towards myself, so now may the positive attention and interest of [name of boss] be directed at me so the s/he favors me above all others, treats me with respect and dignity and that we have a positive working relationship. In Jesus' name. Amen."

Set the petition aside for now and carve your name on one side of the purple candle and your boss's name on the other side of the candle. When you are done, dress the candle with your oils stroking it towards yourself and say:

"As I stroke this candle towards myself, so now may the positive attention and interest of [name of boss] be directed at me so the s/he favors me above all others, treats me with respect and dignity and that we have a positive working relationship. In Jesus' name. Amen."

Set the candle in a holder and place the seal underneath. Light the candle and some incense (make your own cone that is comprised of half Boss Fix Incense Powder and half Crown of Success Incense Powder). One at a time, place the above list of herbs and roots in your mojo bag calling on them to assist you in gaining the favor and respect of your boss.
Place the Seal of Orion in the bag last and then put your mojo bag in a small box with a flat top (I have a special box for this purpose, but you can use an altoids tin.) Place the burning candle on top of the box and let it remain until it is spent.

When the candle has burned out take the mojo bag out of the box, hold the open ends before you and say:

"As God blew the breath of life into Adam, so do I now blow the breath of life into this mojo bag. In Jesus name. Amen."

Pull the drawstring tight closing the mojo bag and hold it in your hands saying:

"And with this life, I give you purpose (state it's purpose).

Next, tie the loose drawstrings into a knot holding the bag shut. The two ends are then knotted together again as before, wrapped around the bag once and tucked underneath itself.  As you tie the bag shut, say:

"With these knots, I bind you to this purpose."

Finally, "feed" your mojo bag some condition oil by dabbing a few drops on it and saying:

"And with this oil, I give you strength to accomplish your purpose. In Jesus name. Amen."

Your mojo should be carried on your person next to your skin for at least a week after which it can be secreted to a safe place and better if that place be in your office where it will not be seen or touched by any other individual. The bag should be "fed" once a week to keep it strong and working for you.

Mailbag Monday: What's In a Name?

Dear Carolina Dean,

I was reading your page on writing petitions and I had a question that I cannot see that you have addressed anywhere on your website. I was born "Adam Bomb" however, since that time I have transitioned to female and now go by "Cherry Bomb" (not my real name). When writing a petition for myself, what name do I use? The one I was given at birth, or the one I chose for myself?

Thanks for any help,

Cherry B.

Hi Cherry,

Thank you for your question. This is actually a fairly common question that I receive, however, it is usually by females who have either married or divorced and who have changed their name; or sometimes it is by someone who has a legal name but who is known by another name such as a nickname or a shortened version of their own name (Sam for Samantha, etc...)

Using myself as an example,  I was named Paul Dean Harris Jr. at birth. When I was younger I was always very shy, however, as I grew older and more self-confident I no longer identified myself as Paul and so in my early 20's I started going by Dean.  Online, however, I am know as Carolina Dean. What name do I use when I write my petitions? The name I most identify with, of course, ....Dean Harris.

Therefore, my advice to you is to use the name that you identify with most.

Now to answer the second part of your question, that you didn't ask but which I know many readers will want to know is: What if I want to write a petition on someone I only know online but I only know their screen name?

There is something of a divide among rootworkers and spiritual practitioners on this issue. Some workers will say that since their screen name is not the person's real name then your working will have little chance of success (especially if you don't have any other connection to the person); other workers believe that, in the absent of any other personal concerns, you just have to go with what you have and hope for the best.
When a person is born, they are given a name by their parents (or someone else) and they may grow up and mature feeling that their name really doesn't fit them or suit them.  A screen-name, however, is usually chosen by the individual and has the potential to speak to the true identity or nature of that person's personality and as such, I believe, has the potential to be just as powerful a link to that individual as their birth name. Your milage may vary, but without any other connection you have no choice but to use what you have.

The Power of Music and Song in Hoodoo

Of all the books which make up the Bible, the Psalms are arguably among the most popular verses used in the practice of magic. These verses are often prayed, in whole or in part, during the course of performing a spell. Typically, verses are chosen according to tradition or according to a personal interpretation of the text.

However, what many folks don't know is that the Psalms were originally intended to be sung. If you look at your bible closely you'll notice that many of the Psalms (about 55 chapters) begin with the words "to the chief musician". What this means is that the Psalms are intended to be performed under his direction in a manner similar to a choir director.

If you recall, Christianity is an offshoot of Judaism and many of the books of the Bible was written by Hebrews or followers of Judaism. In Jewish Synagogues, prayers are often led by a person known as a Cantor. Cantors are often trained in the Musical Arts and it is their responsibility to teach students to read from the Torah and to teach the congregation how to participate in prayer services.

Psalm 55 as sung by Cantor Gershon Sirota

Song as Prayer
In Psalms 100: 1-2, the Bible states:
  1. Make a joyful noise until the Lord, all ye lands.
  2. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
Of course we can't all sing as beautifully as the Cantor, but with a little practice we can sing the Psalms in our own way. However, our songs are not limited to the Psalms or even to bible verses. Often when I am sewing a doll-baby, a mojo bag, or burning candles I find myself humming or singing a hymn. One of my favorites is "Victory is Mine" as it can be adapted to any purpose.

For example, let's say that I am making a mojo for the purpose of attracting love into my life. I have already fixed the mojo, smoked it in incense and fed it oil. Next, I may hold in it my hands and focus on my goal and sing the following verses.

"Love is mine. Love is mine.
Love today is mine.
I told [lonliness] get thee behind.
Love today is mine! "

The next time around I might substitute the word "depression" for loneliness. The next time around I might substitute another word that is symbolic of what may prevent me from finding love. As you can see, you can easily substitute the world "love" for whatever you goal might be. If you find that you have trouble putting into words that which you wish to "get behind" you can simply keep "Satan" in the lyrics as indicative of any opposing force which you feel you must overcome in order to obtain your goal.

Another favorite of mine, "This Little Light of Mine," as you can imagine it is often song when I am burning candles for myself or others.

How Song Can Help Your Hoodoo

Before I began my spiritual journey that lead me to Wicca and then back "home" to the Southern Folk Magic Practices prevalent in the region in which I was born, I grew up in the Baptist Church. I knew many folks who were known as "Prayer Warriors", that is, they were gifted with the power of prayer.

The truth is, the power to pray and pray effectively is both a talent and a skill. When I transitioned from chanting incantations to praying, I found that the talent I had as a writer did not translate to being an orator. I often found myself rambling. At other times I would make my prayer or petition and then think, "now what?" I often felt like my prayers were lacking, that there was more I could be doing, should be doing to put more feeling and emotion into my prayers.

Then one day I was watching a television show and during one of the more dramatic moments they played a song over a montage of a wedding video. Suddenly I felt something inside me shift, I was so moved by the beauty of the song and the expression of love in the video that I broke down crying and I couldn't stop for probably 20 minutes. I felt that that song didn't just come out of his body but from a place deep within his soul and when he sung the emotion and feeling was raw, emotional and beautiful. It inspired me to bare my soul to my God and my spirits through song.

I found that I can make my prayer in my own words and then sing my song without thinking about it or worrying about what I wanted to say but rather just conveyed my wants, needs, and desires through the emotions stirred up by the song. For this reason, my workings and rituals are often accompanied by music.

In Conclusion

Prayer need not be a series of words uttered in faith, silently under your breath but rather a song in your heart that you have set free. By incorporating music and song in your workings and rituals you can free mind from the doubt that you are getting your message across to the spirits with whom you work and increase your ability to move closer to God and improve your chances of success in your endeavors.

Magical Appropriation

Appropriate (V) :  take (something) for one's own use, typically without the owner's permission. "his images have been appropriated by advertisers" synonyms:  seize, commander, annex, arrogate, sequester, hijack

Magical Appropriation

Magical Appropriation is the act of taking something from someone through the use of magic. For the purpose of this blog, we will be focusing on appropriating a person's intangible assets such as their luck, charisma, prosperity, etc... and gaining the benefits that come with them.

Appropriation of a Person's Money Drawing / Retaining Ability

Some folks are naturally gifted with the ability to not only draw steady money but also to retain it in large amounts. Other folks gain wealth and prosperity through hard work and dedication. And then there are those who have the ability to draw wealth and who increase it through hard work, intelligence and dedication.

Most of us probably know such a person who always has money or never has a problem obtaining quickly and we more than likely have thought to ourselves, "if only I had his luck". Now, through the power of Hoodoo, you can!

To perform this spell , you will need:

  • Two Green / Black Reversing-Candles
  • Pen and Paper
  • Crossing Oil
  • Attraction Powder
  • Money Drawing Oil
Working the Root

Gather your materials together and begin by taking a piece of paper and writing the name of the person whose money luck you would appropriate 13 times. Cross and Cover this with the words, "all your prosperity come to me." Anoint the petition in a five-spot pattern with Crossing Oil and then draw a large X from corner to corner along the paper.  Fold the paper away from you three times saying:

"[Name], as I fold this paper away from myself, so may all your wealth, success, and prosperity be turned away from you and come to me. In Jesus name. Amen."

Take the Green/Black Reversing Candle and carve on it the name of the person whose money luck you wish to appropriate. Anoint the candle with Crossing Oil stroking it away from yourself saying:

"[Name], as I stroke this candle away from myself, so may all your wealth, success, and prosperity be turned away from you and come to me. In Jesus name. Amen."

When you are done, place this in a candle holder under which you have placed the first petition.

Next, write the words "[name's] wealth, money, and success come to me" 13 times in a row. Cross and Cover this with your own name, also written 13 times. Anoint the petition in a five-spot pattern with Money Drawing Oil and fold the paper towards yourself three times saying:

"As I fold this paper towards myself, so may all of [Name's] wealth, success, and prosperity come to me. In Jesus name. Amen."

Take the second Green/Black Reversing Candle and butt it (cut off the top, turn it upside down and dig a new wick out of the bottom) so that the black portion is on top and the green portion is on the bottom. Carve your own name on this candle and anoint it with Money Drawing Oil by stroking it towards yourself and saying:

"With God's blessings, as I stroke this candle towards myself, so now may all of [name's] wealth, success, and prosperity come to me. In Jesus name. Amen."

Set this candle in a holder, with your second petition underneath, and place it about 6 inches from the first candle. Place some Money Drawing Oil on the tip of your finger and draw a path from candle # 1 to candle # 2. When you are done, sprinkle some Attraction Sachet Powder over the oil solidifying the path between the candles.

Light candle Number 1 and say:

"[Name], with God's blessings, I cross you now so that all your wealth, success, and prosperity now turn from you and be redirected to me. In Jesus name. Amen."

Light candle Number 2 and say:

"With God's blessings, may all of [Name's] wealth, success, and prosperity turn away from him and now come to me. In Jesus name. Amen."

Finally, affirm your petition by praying the 23rd Psalm as you focus on your goal. If you desire, you can allow the candles to burn completely out on their own, OR you may burn them in increments of 15 minutes a day over a period of days as the moon waxes or wanes (as either would be appropriate for this working.)

In the Cards 2014

My Personal Tarot Reading for 2014

Commentary: Your theme for the year is "mastery". What this means is that knowledge is power but it must also be balance with experience. The lessons that will be presented to you this year will be all about demonstrating mastery at your chosen profession. Whereas you feel that you have such skills, you also fear that they are not good enough.  It is important that you avoid perfectionism, avoid comparing yourself to others,  and focus only on the work before you and doing the best that you can.

It is important that you do not dwell on the negative aspects of the past or rest on your laurels, but rather let your thoughts dwell on the successes that are awaiting you in the future. A lack of patience can impede progress and block your ability to do your best. Success will come to you, however, it will come to you gradually over time.

The potential for abundance in all things (love, money, success) surrounds you. You can access this potential by tapping into your own creativity and producing a type of work / material that is unique to you and which no one else is capable of fully duplicating. Now is the time for you to give form to your vision and take it out of the realm of thought and into the world of reality. A nurturing female mentor may become known to you and act as a guide.

You are now and shall be surrounded by a strong network of support. With such support and by building on the work of the past, continuing your path of growth and self-mastery, you will be richly rewarded with a level of security that will endure.
